While nude photography has been the focus of Roth since 2011, Spatial Concepts comes with a slightly different approach. Drawing inspiration from the “Spatialist” avant-garde artists from the 1960s like Lucio Fontana, Agostino Bonalumi, and Enrico Castellani, Roth combines photography with sculptural elements and modern manufacturing technology. Light still plays a major role in his work and it seems that every room of the exhibition has been set up in a way that both natural and artificial light fall on certain aspects of the work displayed as to emphasize a certain shape or texture that Roth worked on.

‘To give us a break from the quotidian. Everything we do in life is about something, and in that sense art is about nothing. It exists solely because the artist decided to make it. I know that neither art history bares that definition out, nor a lot of politicized contemporary art, but it works as a notional idea.’

His works has something unearthly in them, his nudes are minimalist, as an expression of human spirit, his photographic works are more canvas than images on paper and photographies are more raw material that final products.

The visual content that is displayed as Diasec is similar to a technique called Sfumato used in the renaissance – an effect that is generated through the non-glossy, slightly opaque acrylic glass of the Diasec.

Das Ergebnis in Form der ausgestellten Arbeit »Reading and Waiting late into the Night« spiegelt diesen komplexen Entstehungsprozess wider, der, wie auch andere Arbeiten von Yoram Roth, instrumentell das Bauen von Filmsets, umfangreiche Gestaltungen mit Requisiten und Sets erfordert. Yoram Roth wird auch auf der diesjährigen Milan Image Art Fair im Mai 2013 ausgestellt sein.

“Every step of the pre-production process shapes the final image. Sketching the set allowed me to think of shot angles, or certain image concepts ensured that we built the set to enable that idea Hanako at the trainstation was sketched and we built a small set for that singular scene, where as the little hallway in Jistusko’s house allowed us to shoot a way to Hanako’s bedroom.”

Seit dem 25. April, also pünktlich zum Berliner Gallery Weekend, das heute beginnt, zeigt die CWC GALLERY die Gruppenausstellung »Selection«. Besonders an der über 100 Werke umfassenden Ausstellung ist nicht allein die Tatsache, dass die Werke von sieben Fotografen erstmals in dieser Zusammenstellung gezeigt werden. Erstmals weltweit zu sehen ist auch eine Serie mit Balletttänzern des Künstlers Herb Ritts.
